I use it; it's great. It's a GPS app for the iPhone that has been specifically designed for blind people. It uses four square for it's positions of interests.
Go to www.applevis.com and type in blindsquare in the search box; there's an app submission with stacks of comments, and there's also a podcast on applevis; just search in the box, and selecd podcast in the combo box and you'll find it.
The app is constantly being improved; I highly recommend it.

I agree with the previous poster. this app is great. I love that it tells you the names of the streets as you near them.

Is it more accurate than the default program that is all ready installed in the IPhone? Maps is the one I'm referring to.

I was in a car one time, and I tried using it and it kept acting as though we pulled off the road we were driving down.

Hello guys.
Does Blindsquare also read the house numbers?

Post 12 by WillieTheWoof (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Thursday, 06-Jun-2013 10:57:16

It does read addresses automaticly however, if you stop you can actually press the my location and it will read the closes address. it's usually pretty accurate.

if you want to know where you are at any time, just shake your phone.

Post 14 by Meglet (I just keep on posting!) on Thursday, 06-Jun-2013 13:11:38

Sounds awesome! Thanks for all the info, guys.

No GPS on the website. Smile.
Go see what they have though.
I still need to install the app.

The idea does sound interesting.

Yeah, it certainly beats the idea of buying a $900 trecker breeze by a long shot. Lol. I used to have one and liked it, but the state would only pay for one of those for me. Something went wrong with it, and I'd rather just get the app rather than buy another device or buy expensive software for my BrailleNote apex.

Totally better and cheaper than those stand alone devices methinks :)

Post 19 by Maya83 (Generic Zoner) on Saturday, 08-Jun-2013 7:07:30

But does Blindsquare read the house numbers when you are passing them by?
To explain it better, let's say my house number is 100, so it is starting point. When I am walking does Blind square announce it like for example 99, 98, 97, 96, etc.?
I know Ariadne GPS does exactly what I have described, but unfortunately Ariadne GPS does not work in my area.
I have listened someone playing with Blind square but it announced just crossings and points of interest I think.
Guys, sorry to bother you with my stupid questions, but I want to make sure it will work for me. I cannot afford to pay 17 dollars or so for the app just to try whether it works in my area or not.

Post 20 by rdfreak (THE ONE AND ONLY TRUE-BLUE KANGA-KICKIN AUSIE) on Saturday, 08-Jun-2013 21:09:44

yeh it does; you can set it so when you shake the device it will tell you but it doesn't do it by default no; I would think it'd get a bit annoying if it did. Lol

Post 21 by forereel (Just posting.) on Saturday, 08-Jun-2013 21:13:19

20 dollars, eats data too. Lol
I'm thinking about getting it just to play with. I don't think in my city I'll use it much for actual navigation though. I don't have a flat data plan. Lol, but I'll play with is some.
Also, where you live has to be in their data base.
